Here are some local Civic Groups in the City of Mulvane.

The Mulvane Tree Board

Mulvane Tree Board 1990-2018

The Mulvane Tree Board was established in 1990 by the Mulvane City Council as a part of the City Beautification Program. The Tree Board is Funded by the City of Mulvane for the Purpose of maintaining and improving the tree canopy in the city parks and public land. We are able to accomplish this by the planting of trees and partnering with the city parks department for maintenance and planning. We also enjoy support from the Kansas Forest Service

The Mission of the Mulvane Tree Board is: To maintain the urban forest to Mulvane. Our goal is to provide public awareness to importance of trees and the environmental impact they have on our community. We are able to do this through various projects such as the Arbor Day celebration, the Annual Tree Sale in April and working with the youth to further appreciation for our tree resources. We also Sponsor the Memorial Tree Program to hone those held in regard.

The Tree Board Membership is comprised of seven volunteers appointed by the Mayor of Mulvane for a term of 3 years. This can be renewed every third year. Our knowledge of trees is obtained through attendance at workshops and conferences. Monthly meeting are held for planning projects and exchange of information regarding our tree resource in the city parks. We are not experts, just citizens interested in providing valuable resource for the future generations.

 Mulvane Marauders Car Club LLC

The Mulvane Marauders Car Club was originally founded in 1958 by a bunch of kids who thought it would be "cool" to start a real car club. It started with about a dozen members, some of whom didn't even own a car, and a small shop in downtown Mulvane, Kansas. The club only lasted a few years before shutting down.

In June 1999, a handfull of local friends thought it would be "cool" to have a car club, only this time, do it right with a logo, T-shirts and jackets. After contacting more of the local car guys, the Mulvane Marauders were resurrected. Since that time, the club has continued to grow with members from all around the area, including 4 of the original members and one of the original jackets!

Each year, we host the "Showdown in the Valley" Car Show in Mulvane, and each year over 300 cars, bikes, and special interest vehicles are on display. The car show is a fundraiser with proceedings going for the city of Mulvane beautification program and 3 area charities. Past charities have been: The Boys & Girls Club, Toys for Tots, Kansas Food Bank, Wichita Childrens Home, Honor Flights for Veterans, and many others. The club focuses on family-oriented, communitys, and charitable events.

During the car show season, activities and events are scheduled for most weekends. From Friday and Saturday night cruises to Saturday and Sunday car shows. Club members like to tour together and for out-of-town shows; we meet somewhere and cruise together. Additionally, we are the host club for two other major car shows in the area each year. In the off season we meet each month for a Club breakfast at the Mulvane American Legion, we also have a club dinner in the spring and one in the fall.

Mulvane Historical Society

The Mulvane Historical Museum, housed in the former Santa Fe Depot, was dedicated and opened August 19, 1983. The Mulvane Historical Society was Chartered July 11, 1973. The Depot was built in 1910. By the early 1970's, the depot was used only by railroad repair crews as it was no longer serving passengers. In October 1981, the railroad agreed to sell the depot and lease the land to the Historical Society ending years of negotiations. The museum houses many photographs portraying life in Mulvane throughout its history. It also is home to many displays of collections and treasured pieces of Mulvane History.

During the year, we help support and host various community events throughout the year along with the Mulvane Chamber of Commerce and the Mulvane Community Foundation: Easter Egg Hunt, Ice Cream Social, Old Settlers Days, Halloween Treat Night, and the Downtown Christmas Holiday Celebration.

One can join the Mulvane Historical Society: $5.00 annually or $50.00 for a lifetime. Our meetings are the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at the depot. Your service and your ideas are welcomed.

Mulvane Education Foundation

In 2011, a steering committee comprised of community members and Mulvane High School alums, driven by the needs of our schools, teachers, and students, formed a not-for-profit corporation with the Kansas Secretary of State, named the “Mulvane Education Foundation, Inc.”   The Mulvane Education Foundation is a community-based corporation formed exclusively for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes, and specifically “not-for-profit”, so as to qualify as an organization exempt from taxation under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, so that any donations it may receive will be legally tax deductible to all donors.

The exclusive purpose of this Corporation is to improve the quality of education in Mulvane by soliciting and raising charitable donations to be allocated toward the enhancement of educational opportunities and related extracurricular activities for the residents and patrons of Unified School District No. 263, Mulvane, Kansas.

This endeavor has created, for the first time in our schools history, a recognized “legally organized” foundation, solely in support of educational pursuits in the Mulvane School District.  The goal is to create a separate, organized entity, to which people can make charitable donations for two broad purposes.  First, donations will be used to provide grants in aid of educational pursuits in our school district by providing money directly to teachers, classrooms and schools for equipment, supplies and technology.  Secondly, the corporation intends to establish graduation scholarships which can be used to propel students graduating from Mulvane High School to post-secondary success in amounts and numbers that could never have been realized without a central, duly qualified, non-governmental, legally-organized, and tax-exempt corporation.

To date, with your help and the help of the community, through donations and fundraising projects, we have we have raised nearly $200,000 to award grants to our teachers for projects including I-Pad Data Tracking, Alphabetic Phonics Materials, Social and Emotional Skills Improvement, Smartboard / Projector and Sound System, Promethean Boards, starting a National Jr. Honors Society, “Paperless” Debate and Forensics Technology, and a new Kiln, just to name a few.

Come join us to build futures and strengthen Mulvane.

Pix Marquee Committee

Mulvane greeted the new Pix Theater in a big way August 1, 1942.  The owners; Mr. & Mrs. Slothower from Wichita invited guests that included Mr. & Mrs. Walter Beech, Mr. & Mrs. Harry Nessly and representatives of Paramount Pictures, National Screen, Twentieth Century Fox and Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures. They all proclaimed the theater to be beautiful, and the projection and sound to be perfect.  The marquee was the new center piece of Main Street and Mulvane was very proud of the statement it made.

The City of Mulvane has recently renovated the theater building into what is now the Pix Community Center.  A committee was formed in 2017 to raise funds to replace the marquee.  The committee consists of Kyle Steadman, Gary McQuire, Nancy Mottola, Dan Harvey, Jeri Myers, Claud Giles, Ray Westfall, Beckie Bowers & Karen Rambo.  The endeavor includes replacing the marquee, ticket booth and landscaping.  The new marquee will be made to look as much like the old one as possible except that it will be digitally controlled from city hall. The message board will display upcoming events and again be the center piece of Main Street.  The total amount needed to fully fund the project is $125,000.00.

The first fundraiser was held in April 2017.  A dinner and auction raised $11,000.00, added to the approximate donation amount of $4,000.00 that was previously received brings our total to a little over $15,000.00.  If you would like to donate, you can contact one of the committee members or mail donations to Mulvane Community Foundation, P.O. Box 234, Mulvane, Ks.  67110.  Please designate on the memo line Pix Marquee Donation.  All donations are tax deductible and very much appreciated.  Help us bring back a part of Main Street we can all be proud of!

Doc Sunback Film Festival

All About Us....

The festival is named after the local pioneer veterinarian, Dr. Willis O. "Doc" Sunback, who was born in 1879.  He was a good doctor & was even trusted to help people with their ailments when a medical doctor wasn't available.  He lived to be 81 and is still personally remembered by some of the folks from Mulvane.

The Doc Sunback Film Festival began in 2015 with three founding members,

Nancy Farber Mottola, Kenneth Linn, & Sheri Kaufman-Marsh.  This small band of

over-achievers screened 500+ films and with the help of volunteers put together a film festival & art crawl that spanned 2 days, in 3 theaters, 2 art venues, and featured over 100 films and 12 local artists.

The 2018 Doc Sunback Film Festival took place on June 21st, 22nd, 23rd, & 24th, 2018.  We showed about 2 hours of films on Thursday evening, including the independent film American Folk.  Films were shown all day Friday in two locations and all day Saturday in three locations.  The Awards Ceremony was well attended on Saturday night before we headed outside to show films in Cobb Park. We finished things up on Sunday with some great films at the Pix theater.

We are already working on next year's festival which will be held in June 2019.

Mulvane Baseball Association

The Mulvane Patriots Baseball Association was founded in 2017 by a few local volunteers and has had 2 successful seasons.  The Patriots are made up of college players, ranging anywhere from 18-23 years old, from all over the US that are looking to continue playing throughout the summer.  The Patriots are a member of the Sunflower Collegiate League and have played in the National Baseball Congress World Series the past 2 seasons.  In their inaugural seasons, the Patriots were 1st in the Sunflower Collegiate League and finished in 5th place at the NBC World Series Tournament.  This past season, the Patriots finished 2nd in league and won their pool in the first week of the NBC World Series.

Our organization relies a lot on the support of the Mulvane community and businesses to make this team happen.  First, we would like to thank our host families who open their homes to our players for the summer.  We also would like to thank everyone who has supported the Patriots by volunteering their time and talents, being a sponsor, or filling the stands. We look forward to many more successful years ahead!
